Novin Health Journal (NHJ) is proud to biannually publish the results of researches in the field of "Health and Medical Sciences". Dear authors are requested to consider the following points before editing and sending their articles.

General policies of the journal

  1. The submitted articles should not have been previously published or submitted simultaneously to other journals.

  2. All authors are responsible for the content of articles and listed references.

  3. Submitting an article grants the journal the right to accept, reject or edit the articles.

  4. After the initial review and after getting the reviewers’ comment, the article will be presented in the Editorial Board session and the result will be declared to the author as acceptance, revision or rejection. If revised in time, the article will be reviewed for a second time and the result will be subsequently stated to the author. After editing and before publishing, the accepted article will be sent to the corresponding author for final confirmation.

  5. Articles that are Original, Editorial, Review, Brief Report, Case Report, and Letter to the Editor will be included in the review process.

  6. Prerequisite form for publication of the article should be signed manually by the corresponding author and its scanned or photographed image should be sent to the journal during submission.

Writing articles

  1. The main version of articles should follow this format: Word 2003 or higher, B Mitra 12 for Persian articles and Times new roman 12 for English articles, 1.5 cm space between the lines, A4 size and 2.5 cm margin in each side.

  2. Pages should be numbered and type of the article, article title (B Mitra 14, bold), running title (50 characters max), author names (B Mitra 12) along with their scientific degree (MD, PhD, etc.) (B Mitra 12), affiliation (B Mitra 10) as well as address, email and phone number of the corresponding author should be mentioned in the first page (title page).

  3. All figures and charts should be inserted after references with acceptable quality. Descriptions of tables should be noted above them and descriptions of charts and figures should be noted below them.

Original article:

The article should contain title, running title, Persian and English abstract (each with maximum of 250 words), Persian and English keywords (3-5 words), introduction, methods, findings, discussion and conclusion, acknowledgement and references. These articles should be written in maximum of 2500 words (excluding abstract, tables and references).

  • Abstract: The abstract may contain maximum of 250 words and should include background and objective, methods, findings and conclusion.

  • Keywords: Keywords should be 3 to 5 words according to the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH).

  • Introduction: In this section, after noting a brief scientific background of the subject of study, the hypothesis and aim of the study should be stated briefly. Findings or conclusion should not be mentioned here. Fully relevant references should only be used.

  • Methods: Studied population, sampling method and samples size (patients or laboratory animals) including control groups and witness groups should be stated clearly and accurately. Inclusion and exclusion criteria (if present) should be mentioned. Obtaining informed consent (if present) should be noted. In clinical trials, the confirmation of research ethics committee of the related organization should be mentioned. Statistical methods should be illustrated in full detail so that the findings are reasonable and understandable for the reader. The name of the statistical software should be brought up. Statistical tests should be stated for variables of the study.

  • Findings: To state the findings, it is necessary to consider descriptive analysis data first and consider analytical data later. Moreover, data in tables, charts and figures should not be repeated in the text, unless they are necessary to be stated. Contents of discussion and conclusion section should not be mentioned here.

  • Discussion and Conclusion: In the first part of this section, it is better to state the findings related to the main questions of the study. Findings of the study should be compared with other studies and the reasons for similarities and differences should be analyzed. Repeating contents of introduction or findings sections should be avoided. Authors should try to introduce new issues and hypotheses related to the topic of the article. It is better to mention the limitations of the study. Final result states the main aim of the study.

  • Acknowledgement: In this section, authors can appreciate the help and support of individuals or institutes.

  • Conflicts of Interest: It is necessary to state the relationship between authors, institutes and organizations to avoid conflicts of interest.

  • Writing references: References should be written in English. Persian references should be translated to English correctly (by referring to journal database of the article or Magiran database) and the phrase “In Persian” should be stated in the end. Reference list should be written in Vancouver style and should be numbered as used in the text. EndNote software should be preferably used.

  • How to reference an article: Last name, first letter of author's (or authors') name (up to 6 first authors and use "et al." to mention other authors). Article title. Name of the journal (abbreviated). Year of publication; publication period (journal issue): page number.

  • How to reference a book: Last name, first letter of author's (or authors') name. Name of the book. Publication queue. Place of publication: publisher; year of publication.

  • How to reference a chapter of a book: Last name, first letter of author's (or authors') name. Title of Chapter. Last name, first letter of editors' name. Name of the book. Publication queue. Place of publication: publisher; year of publication. Page number.

Editorial: These articles should be written in Persian and English by the editor or journal editorial committee. These articles may contain a maximum of 800 words (excluding references) and 10 references and contain images or tables.                   

Review article: A review article should interpret a particular scientific subject accurately and comprehensively from different perspectives and present a new and reasonable conclusion with correct theorizations. At least 40 authoritative and preferably new references should be used. Narrative articles include Persian and English abstract, introduction and titles. Systematic and Meta-analysis articles should include materials and methods, results and discussions and conclusions. At least 3 relevant references from the author or authors should be used. These articles may contain maximum of 3000 words (excluding abstract and references).

Brief Report: The structure of these articles is similar to research articles, except that research results and their interpretation are more concise. These articles should not exceed 1500 words (excluding abstracts and references).

Case Report: If confronted with extremely rare patients or complications, authors can report the cases. The articles should include Persian and English abstract, keywords, introduction, case report, discussion and conclusion, acknowledgement, tables and references. The abstract should contain maximum of 200 words and the main text should not contain more than 1500 words (excluding references).

Letter to the Editor: This is a scientific critique or comment on a particular subject in the field of health and medical sciences. It should not contain more than 500 words (excluding references) and 5 references. This article should be written in Persian and English. If it is related to another article in the journal, it will be sent to the corresponding author and if the author is willing to write a response, his response will be published simultaneously.
